Bob goes out for a walk with his dog Paws. Bob walks the two kilometres to the bandstand at a regular speed of 3 kilometres an hour. Paws is an exuberant dog who runs straight to the bandstand and then back to Bob, then back to the bandstand and back to Bob and so on until Bob reaches the bandstand when Paws sits down for a rest. If Paws runs at 12 kilometres an hour, how far does he cover before his rest?
Paws travels 8km. Bob takes 40 minutes to walk to the bandstand so Paws runs for 40 minutes at 12 km/h making 8km.
In which sport do the winners move backwards and the losers move forwards?

It has to retrace its steps to treturn and does so at nine mph.
What is the average speed of the float over the round trip?
4.5mph. Say the distance was 9 miles there and 9 miles back. It would take the float 3 hours to get there and only 1 hour to get back. The average speed would be 18 divided by 4 = 4.5 mph
